For thousands of years we traveled in bonded packs that fiercely protected each other, for a lone wolf will die but the pack will survive. We gracefully traversed the wide-open expanse of land, enjoying limitless freedom to range as far as our legs could carry us. At night the symphony of our collective calls would carry through woods, valleys and hills, echoing for all to hear.
nature perspective series: soil
I host a wide array of life within the darkness, a whole web of life living and breathing just beneath the surface. I am a part of a sacred dance that has taken place since life began, a life-giving exchange where energy flows back and forth between the above and below, a cycle which has no beginning or end. I lovingly cradle the Earth’s plants in a nurturing embrace, protecting their winding system of roots in the safety of my darkness.
Nature perspective series: bison
No other animal could adapt as well as we did, our very existence is so connected to the land that there did not seem to be a time when we were not roaming across it. Our strength and resilience allowed my ancestors to blanket the prairies and survive the various conditions they encountered, creating a powerful and plentiful herd that appeared unshakable.
Nature Perspective Series: River
Through my many cycles, with their ebbs and flows, I hum along to the rhythm of life and put my mark on the land. I have the power to carve stone and erode soils or grow swollen with water and break free from my well-worn path to move across the surface, but when my strength is respected, I provide more than I take away.
Nature Perspective Series: Tree
My purpose has always been known, to make my home within the Earth, our life-giving mother, and be the sturdy support to her children. We are the elders of this family, the ones with cracked and wrinkled lines marking our bodies, the ones who have borne witness to the patterns of life and death.
Archive Series: Lessons from history—Kent State May 4th 1970
My hope with this video is to show that we cannot forget the lessons from this time in history when a war and social movements were fracturing the fabric of society by challenging America’s values as a nation, and what can happen when the fundamental right to protest actions by the government is suppressed and ignored.
Artwork series: The ‘divine masculine’
I wanted to create a representation of this concept by showing a masculine figure who is enlightened, divinely in harmony with their true nature. Someone who has a quiet strength and resilience within them. A person who is deeply held by nature, while also allowing their own sacred wildness to expand and overgrow around them. Someone who is not hell bent on conquering, overpowering, or destroying, but rather an evolved individual who seeks deep understanding, is committed to profound empathy, and is fierce in protecting and nurturing the future.
Soul Series: The journey into the self
You’ll have to pull at every string in the fabric of your mind to see what strands connect to something true and real to you, and which ones were artificially bound to your identity and now need severing. This work may seem tedious, indulgent, overwhelming, earth-shattering, and uncomfortable—and it often is—but to start rebuilding yourself on a foundation of authenticity, you must confront the soul’s growing pains first.
And it all starts here…
This work—the seemingly impossible task of both creating and discovering yourself—is truly never completed in one’s lifetime. I’ve always had this gnawing feeling, this deep rooted need to dig deeper; into myself, society, the natural world—to study the essence of life itself. Where this has led me is to embody the classic idea of the philosopher, artist, scientist, revolutionary, and meld this old-world archetype with a 21st century millennial mindset to inspire real change—a true modern-day renaissance.
